TANGO MUSIC
ALTERNATIVE MILONGA:
What tango music you want to dance to is a simple matter of choice, nothing more.. Most tango dancers in Atlanta prefer traditional music, however alternative milongas dominate in many cities.. I personally find a mixture of the old and the new tango music delightful.. This respects the traditional, while doing the same for the modern artists. Oasis tango is Atlanta's home for modern and alternative tangos.. As with traditional music, much modern tango music also works for dancing tango (as does the alternative music). If it is beautiful music, and it calls you to dance, its all good.
ALTERNATIVE MILONGA
Oasis music is sometimes called an ALTERNATIVE MILONGA (NUEVO MILONGA).. Oasis is still basically a tango dance (80-90 percent tango danceable), but with old and modern tangos mixed in. Also a few sets of alternative tangos (music that is danceable, but never intended for tango), such as Prince, Shakira, Mariah Carey, etc)..
Oasis is friendly to swing, salsa, blues, waltz, chacha.. Let the DJ know if you would like a particular set of music played (not during the tango class though).. Most tango dancers also dance other dances (so everyone "should" be happy)..
